Welcome back to another episode of America’s Best Dance Crew. To recap, Fr3sh went home after the premiere, after going against Southern Movement and Beat Ya Feet Kingz in Sudden Death.
This Week’s Challenge = Beyonce Challenge! Crews are assigned a song and task by Sasha Fierce herself. Analysis comes in order of performance. FYI, from this point on I’ll only be watching the Performances and skipping the judges’s remarks.
We Are Heroes - Song: “Single Ladies” - Task: -Integrate pop n lock effect with a Grind Move from the video - Good use of the dance style of the video with the their style. The Heart Formation with the Head movement was definitely a highlight. Definitely underestimated this group from last week.
Rhythm City - Song: “Sweet Dreams” - Task: Update the Charleston dance style in routine - Bed prop was best in the Intro and End, but seem like an afterthought for most of the routine. They did OK with the challenge. I don’t think it was as good as last week’s performance.
Massive Monkeez - Song: “Work it Out” - Task: Use Hula Hoop in Routine - I’ll be honest with you, I tend to give Breaker Crews a harder time - I wasn’t a fan of Sup3r Cr3w in Season 2. Hmmm… The use of the hoop as a frame was nice, obviously tumbling through them as well as the middle section were highlight. Good performance.
Beat Ya Feet Kingz - Song: “Crazy In Love” Task: Creatively integrate the “Uh-Oh” Dance - Doesn’t seem a hard challenge, fans of ABDC have probably seen guys own up to this move already. Definitely not a flashy routine, and it didn’t do enough for me to keep me interested.
Southern Movement - Song: “Jumpin’ Jumpin’” Task: Bounce, Shake, Twist and Dip in Routine - Southern Movement beats my prediction! Stepped it up quite a bit this week, too. Good movement and the toss at the end was pretty high.
Vogue Evolution -Song: “Deja Vu” - Task: Integrate African Step dance - Pretty Good Routine all around - The transgender member Leiomy Maldonado definitely shined tonight. Found it a little funny and ironic that she was pairing up with the other guys during the routine.
And now, the Showdown and it’s results:
Artistry in Motion - Song: “Diva” Task: Hold a chain at the same time during the performance - Well integrated chain use in the beginning. Artistry had the attitude, but the end lacked impact.
Afroborike - Song: “Beautiful Liar” - Task: Belly Dance integration - Kay, the challenge and song was pretty much an easy fit for them. They pretty much had a free ride on this one. All in all though, solid and sexy, with even a surprise stunt or two.
Elimination Result - Afroborike survives, and Artistry in Motion is eliminated.
Closing Thoughts - Now with the challenges in effect, every crew is going to go through a little growing period. Disappointed that Afroborike got an easier challenge than the other crews. We Are Heroes, Southern Movement, Vogue Evolution, and Afroborike definitely earned their safety tonight. Beat Ya Feet Kings and maybe Massive Monkeez (although given that B-Boys are vote getters, probably not) in the showdown, with the Beat Ya Feet Kings going home. My DVR did not get what next week’s challenge, so I don’t have an idea who can rock it next week. See you then!
